Portraying it as a bleak outlook might be exaggerating a bit.
But not much.
It certainly wasn't a rosy picture for Mount Horeb’s boys basketball team with a minute to go in the first half Saturday afternoon against visiting Onalaska, the third-ranked team in Division 2 according to the Wissports....

Todd Nesheim had a feeling.
But even this result too good to be true.
Nesheim, Mount Horeb’s 15th-year boys basketball coach, had a hunch his Vikings might be better this season than many people were predicting.

But Todd Nesheim wasn’t complaining. Instead, Mount Horeb’s boys basketball coach was thrilled to end the first week of the new season a perfect 2-0.

No, the Vikings didn't win a championship — or even a meet for that matter.
Instead, Mount Horeb fielded its own team for the first time in school history.

Mount Horeb’s girls gymnastics team began the season by finishing second at the five-team, Sun Prairie Invite last Saturday.
Host Sun Prairie finished first with a 137.375 team score, while the Vikings were second at 133.325. Monona Grove (127.425), Waupun (124.225) and Madison United (100.575)...

Mount Horeb-Barneveld’s football team had another tremendous season.
The Vikings won the outright title in the Badger Small Conference. It was the Vikings’ second straight league title, marking the first time in school history they won back-to-back conference championships.

The word rebuild doesn’t exist inside Mount Horeb’s girls gymnastics program.

Those are acceptable terms — and that’s just what the Vikings plan to do this winter.
Mount Horeb lost the overwhelming majority of the group that finished second at the WIAA Division 2 state...
The first one is in the books.
And boy, did it feel good.
Mount Horeb’s girls basketball team defeated Milton, 65-50, on Nov. 22 for their first win of the new season. It was also the Vikings’ first win under co-interim coaches Bart Leibfried and Dana Showers.
