Mount Horeb Police Chief Explains Enforcement Of Governor's Stay At Home Order
Mount Horeb Residents,
There are many questions and concerns regarding the Safer at Home Order that takes effect today at 8 a.m.
I have had a chance to read the order and discuss the implications with staff. There have also been updates released through the media in the past 24 hours that have given clarification as well. As stated before, the purpose of this order is to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the strain on the healthcare services available to the public.
If you do not need to travel, Stay Home. The better we follow this order, the faster we will see a reduction in community spread, and the sooner the order can be canceled.
As to the fear and anxiety over enforcement and how to proceed under this order, if you are following the rules set forth and reducing travel to only essential reasons (medical treatment, caring for family, groceries, pharmacy to name a few) there is nothing to worry about. We will not be setting up check points or stopping every car on the road to verify compliance, all we ask is that you use common sense and keep to the order as best you can.
Things we will be doing will include contacting groups of people in public that are larger than 5 and monitoring businesses / venues (schools, non-profits, etc.) to ensure social distancing is being followed.
If you have questions about the order or COVID-19, please call 211, check public health websites, or contact your physician if you are ill.
Respectfully,
Mount Horeb Police Chief Doug Vierck
